Visit Ihlara Valley, Selime Monastery, Pigeon Valley and Kaymakli Underground City
The surreal landscape of Cappadocia, created by successive volcanic eruptions and continuous erosion is a huge national park. Its incredible formations and rock-cut churches from the early Christianity are being enlisted as a UNESCO world heritage site! People are still living caves within the region and each town has a somewhat troglodyte character! There are more than 100 underground cities adding an unbeatable feature to the area.
The Green Tour of Cappadocia is a timeless classic to introduce you the best of Cappadocia region in a day. Our tour will start with a visit to the world famous UNESCO World Heritage site Kaymakli Underground City. Then we head on to Ihlara Valley where early Christian monks settled and worshipped. After exploring the rock-cut churches of the valley and having a tasty lunch at a local restaurant in the historical Belisirma village beside Melendiz river, we will continue our program with Selime Cave Monastery. Given that the area is highly volcanic, there are lots of rocky outcrops with şnteresting shapes as well as precious stones such as obsidian or even onyx is a material locally mined. Onyx has been crafted by the Cappadocian artisans for thousands of years. After a demonstration at a local atelier, our final stop before we return home will be at a fantastic view point, the Pigeon valley.
